Suunto have just this morning launched a new and very attractive lightweight watch called the ‘Suunto 9 Peak’ designed to wear all day and night. It is made from titanium, has blood oxygen monitoring, turn by turn navigation and mapping via the App.
The watch is the first Suunto that can receive updates over the air via your smartphone.
‘It’s the thinnest, smallest, toughest watch Suunto have ever made’.
The marketing strapline is around “measuring the silence in your mind and peak moments in your life’ rather than metrics measured. This is a move towards ‘wellness’ as opposed to being the fastest or strongest athlete.
Blood oxygen monitoring is very useful if you feel you may be suffering from COVID-19. A low level of 92% or less means go straight to hospital.

whichwearable initial feedback ‘A lighter, more attractive sports watch such as the Suunto 9 Peak may appeal to customers who are put off by bulky sport watches specifically if they like sleep monitoring and use the product when not exercising’ .

Adding the blood oxygen feature is a way of keeping up with the growing feature set of the Apple watch.

The form factor looks very nice and is part of the new Suunto “Design language’. This means that other new watches from Suunto may look similar going forwards. The strap has a new metal pin to secure it.
The watch is made in Finland, the country where tough mobile phones came out of it. You may be old enough to remember your Nokia 1100. Mine is over 15 years old and still works in my drawer. Heikki Norta, the President of Suunto is ex-Nokia.
Suunto excel with battery life , you can get 170 hours of battery life with GPS in tour mode if you need it. If you are an ultra-runner you may want to look at Suunto for long runs.
Can’t wait to try it out.
Pre-orders are being taken for watches to be shipped in June. The watch is £629.
