Was the Apple iPod Shuffle the best running wearable?

Apple have announced the death of the iPod by not making it anymore.

The Apple Nano and Shuffle were and still are design classics.

The Apple Shuffle below could be the ultimate running wearable. The key features of it are:

  1. Small
  2. Light
  3. Clips onto your shirt for running
  4. Battery charges and stays charged for months if you don’t use it
  5. Simple UI for running, play, forward, back volume up/down
  6. Immediately available for use to run, no messing about

The Apple Nano spurred the way to smart watches with the collaboration with Nike (Nike +) and the first footpods ( See red unit below) working in combination with the Nano (see white transmitter/receiver in charging socket)  to record your gate and speed.

The Audio feedback from elite runners to motivate you such as Paula Radcliffe telling you “That’s your fastest mile well done” was brilliant.

All in all it’s sad to see them stopping production. I still use both at the gym to listen and “disconnect” from the world. In my mind it will be hard to beat the design of the Shuffle, a real classic.
