First Impressions after the unboxing

Animated_box_PLT

Plantronics kindly lent me the BackBeat Fit headphones and I have been using them for around four months solidly whilst running, in the gym and at work.

My first impressions are :

  • Very light
  • Very flexible
  • Very comfortable. No ear ache (Baby seals in your ears) after first run
  • Play and next track selection with music is easy
  • Audible feedback from ladie’s voice is reassuring “Connected, not connected, 8 hour battery left”

Stable, Comfortable fit

Before insertion. You can see the lime green insert that can be spun around to fit your ear for a good fit. I only had to adjust mine a few millimetres to make them fit well.

After insertion. There you go it was easy. As the speakers  don’t go into the ear canal they are very comfortable and allow sweat to evapourate out rather than build up during a long run.

Running with a phone on your arm

plantronics_phone

I look very happy to be wearing a “brick” on my arm, not!

Running with a smartphone these days is so “yesterday” as the elastic band constricts my arm and affects the blood supply. Effectively you are wearing a tourniquet. The Backbeat Fits performed well with an Android Smartphone but the surprise  was when I paired them with the Android Wear watch below.

Run with Android Wear

I paired the BackBeat Fit with my Moto 360 Android Watch and downloaded some music to the watch over Wifi. This is a tricky action (Getting music onto the watch that is) to get right. I’ve paired many bluetooth headsets to the Moto 360 watch and got poor results whilst running. Not so with the BackBeat Fit. They are perfect for BackBeat fit and outperform some £200 headsets. There is no or dare I say “minimal” audio clipping whilst running. If I’m going flat out trying to do 7 minute miles I did get minor clipping but that was pushing it.

Just going running with the two bad boys below, Android Play music and Google Fit is a joy. Unleash yourself from the smartphone and be free!

Why it works?

  1. Single button for volume. Single press UP, long press DOWN. This is FANTASTIC!
  2. Play/Pause music single press. Double press = next track
  3. Comfort fit with single plastic insert
  4. Lightweight plastic
  5. Neck fit around the back of the head

The “dunk” test

I dropped the headphones in a glass of water for half and hour and then took them to test the waterproofness of them. Put them back in my ears and bing they work!

Quick Charge

Its worth mentioning the quick charge, after 15 minutes you are ready to go and this makes taking them for the the day to day run a joy.

Managing Calls

I have received a few calls whilst running and apart from the calling party complaining about being in a wind tunnel as I didn’t slow down too much I thought the operation was very simple and easy to use.

In the office

The Headphones pair easily with a Macbook Pro and Windows 10. No issues in playing music and getting on with it.

That’s it great headphones just great.

whichwearble highlight : Grabbing the headphones for everyday use and coming back with ears that aren’t clogged up with sweat.

whichwearable lowlight : None.
