Testing the “Integrated Training App with Audio coaching that helps you plan monitor and evaluate your performance” , “COMPLY Isolation premium foam ear tips (Gives passive noise cancelation and enhanced base)” and “Perfect and Secure fit”

Fitting the headphones and noise reduction

The units come with two types insert foam and gels (Rubber) . There are 3 sizes of both foam and gel buds as shown below. This is a great set of kit. The headphones also come with 3 sizes of “wings” that bed the headphones in the ear and stop them falling out. You are sure to get the right fit.

The foam buds did provide some noise reduction and a secure fit. There isn’t any noise reduction with the gels. There is also no “active” noise reduction going on here but essentially the product relies on the foam inserts reducing noise like standard ear plugs. These aren’t “Bose” noise reduction class headphones and I don’t think they are claiming to be.

The headphones promote “a more powerful” sound and I can confirm that listening to music is great and certainly a “premium sound” for in ear headphones. I cannot say they give a tremendous bass sound so this was a little disappointing.

First run

My first run of 8 miles was exiting with the App from the audio countdown and the music selection playing in the background.

To start the first run session I pressed the “Sports button” in my ear. “5 , 4, 3, 2, 1, go!”

This was fun. After a mile I had to stop as the automatic updates were off per mile (So I switched them on) and I got heart rate from the in ear heart rate monitor when I adjusted it. The voice coach tells you when she can’t measure your heart rate and you have then have to adjust the headset further into your ear.

The Audio coach feedback can be prompted at any time by pressing the “Sports button” again. The run was windy and as I pressed it the music faded which is great and the lady coach gave me an update.

After several runs I discovered a moving sound bar in the “Voice Readouts” menu called “Read out volume” which adjusts the level of the coach which is fantastic as this is needed in noisy environments so that you can differentiate between the coach and the music.

Changing music tracks is great by selecting a long press of the upper button on the dangling control. I got used to that quickly and this is a great feature as I do get bored of my playlist.

I used the yellow clip accessory at the back to shorten the plastic strap and decided to abandon it as it caught/dragged the cord in my neck making it uncomfortable. It could be useful for people with long hair.

I expected to end the run by long pressing the Sports button but that didn’t work so I had to take look at my phone and find the end session button. This could be improved by not having to use the mobile at all and a long press of the Sports button.

The App design is very simple and what I want. A map of where I ran to share, my heart rate zones and my VO2 max result.

VO2 max is defined in Wikipedia as  “the maximum rate of oxygen consumption as measured during incremental exercise, most typically on a treadmill”. Jabra use a partner company to calculate VO2 max and the best results rely on you entering your personal data correctly and the run being outside with GPS enabled.

Taking more runs gives you more feedback and tells you if you are fitter or less fit than the last run which is very useful. To be told you are “very fit for your age” by a lady is great!  This is a case of just providing the right amount of data for you as opposed to “Overdata”.

I could see that I was spending too much time in the Maximum zone (See above orange bar) so now I focus in different heart zones.

whichwearable Highlight: In ear Heart audio updates including pace and strides per mile without having to wear a Heart rate strap.

whichwearable Lowlight : Minor. Not being able to end the run using the headset Sports button instead of the phone App.
